Champagne for Brian!

On 8th October, we were delighted to welcome Alan Oliver of Checkmate Fire to Safety Management (UK). Alan called in to present Brian Gregory (our MD) with a bottle of champagne for his ‘excellent’ performance at the recent Checkmate Fire 'Passive Fire Safety Conference' in association with Aviva Insurance at their premises in London.

On 4th September, Brian presented to an audience of over 100 business experts on the subject of Fire Doors at the Checkmate Fire Conference. He received 27 'excellent' ratings from the audience feedback forms, making him the most popular presenter on the day.

Brian talked with delegates about the effective methods of risk rating fire doors to establish a practical and effective repair and maintenance regime that can be prioritised on a risk based approach .  He outlined what constitutes a fire door, and what safety critical features of the fire door need to be assessed to confirm its adequacy. Once compliance has been identified it is then a case of looking at the smaller and non safety critical features on the fire doors that need assessing.  Once all this information has been collated, using a scoring system, doors are graded on the importance of repair or maintenance.  From this grading, users are then in a position to prioritise works on the fire doors, ultimately identifying the most critical door in their stock.

Date for your diaries!

While he was visiting us, Alan confirmed the date of the next Checkmate Passive Fire Safety Conference which will take place on 12th February 2014, in conjunction with Bradford NHS and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The event will take place from time 9am – 4pm, with the venue still to be confirmed.

Brian will be delivering his presentation on fire doors and hoping once again to be crowned top speaker, if only so he can get his hands on more of Alan’s excellent champagne.
