Fire Risk Assessment

Independent Retailers at Risk

Our MD, Brian Gregory, has recently been speaking to Independent Retail News about the risk to independent retailers who are putting off fire risk assessments and cutting back on vital maintenance and investment in safety measures in order to save money.

This trend is putting their businesses in danger of a devastating blaze - and at risk of a hefty fine for failing to comply with fire safety laws. There have been more than 150 fires in small retail outlets across the fire hotspot region of Lancashire alone in the last 12 months.

Even poorly prioritising inexpensive housekeeping chores such as deep cleans can cause fires which could have devastating results. Businesses fortunate enough to avoid the fire can still get caught on the enforcement issue. Fines average around £3,000 per offence and can mount up very quickly.

With fire risk assessments available from just £140, it is false economy to put it off.

This conversation featured on the IRN website and was also picked up the Lancashire Telegraph and the Blackpool Gazette.

The Lancashire Evening Post also picked up the story, and it featured as the lead article in the LEP Business Section.
