First Year Students are a Kitchen Fire Hazard

Our article on first year university students being a fire hazard has received attention in two of the national daily newspapers, the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Star.

Students moving away from home for the first time caused 750 fires in university halls of residence last year because they did not know how to cook or use kitchen appliances properly.

We urge all parents to give their teenagers basic cooking lessons before they start the new term in September. It is also the case that malicious and false activations of fire alarms is still a significant problem for universities, accounting for almost 14,000 incidents in a year.
